Grass Cutting Update

The contractor attempted to cut the grass in late June but unfortunately the equipment they brought along was not man-enough for the job as the grass had grown longer and more lush than expected due to the heavy rain earlier in the month.  They are now in the process of obtaining some heavy-duty grass cutting machinery and hope to be on-site again very soon.

This experiment has not worked out as well as we had hoped, and for that we apologise, but the intentions were honourable, for the benefit of the environment.  Hopefully with the help and advice of the grass contractor a better way forward can be found for the future.

It’s also important to clarify a couple of points:

1. Although we didn’t hold fire on grass cutting to save money, we were not paying the contractors full costs during this period.  We only paid a small amount for bush and hedge trimming.  We are also have not and will not be subsidising the cost of any heavy-duty equipment.  The gardeners are expected to provide the requisite tools for the job.

2. The fees that residents pay are not just to maintain the grass and vegetation.  Amongst other things, we are also responsible for a large attenuation tank and associated vortex valve beneath the land for ground-water drainage.  These tanks and valves are costly to maintain and it’s important we have the necessary finances to ensure these are functional and work as-designed.
